Nursery Christmas songs           (songs to sing at home with your child)

Little Donkey

Little donkey, little donkey on the dusty road

Got to keep on plodding onwards with your precious load.

Been a long time, little donkey through the winter’s night

Don’t give up now, little donkey Bethlehem’s in sight.

Chorus:

Ring out those bells tonight Bethlehem, Bethlehem

Follow that star tonight Bethlehem, Bethlehem.

Little donkey, little donkey on the dusty road

Got to keep on plodding onwards with your precious load.

Been a long time, little donkey through the winter’s night

Don’t give up now, little donkey Bethlehem’s in sight.

Chorus

Twinkle Twinkle

Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are,

Up above the world so high like a diamond in the sky,

Twinkle twinkle little star how I wonder what you are.

Twinkle twinkle star so bright in the middle of the night,

God sent you to show the way to the place where Jesus lay

Twinkle twinkle little star how I wonder what you are.

Away in a Manger

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,

The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head.

The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay,

The little lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

Jingle Bells

Christmas eve is here… and we go off to bed

As we climb the stair, nodding, sleepy head,

Take our stockings off, Hang them in a row,

Then jump quickly into bed and off to sleep we go… OH..

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way.

Oh! what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way;

Oh! what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.

Dear Father Christmas

Dear Father Christmas, we want you to know,

We want to build a snowman but we haven’t any snow.

We just want a little, enough for 1 day…

And when we’ve built our snowman you can take the rest away.

Repeat

5 Christmas puddings in a Baker Shop

5 Christmas puddings in a Baker Shop. Round and flat with holly on the top.

Along came (insert child’s name) with a penny one day.

Bought a Christmas pudding and took it right away. Yum Yum. Yum Yum.

Here We Go Round the Christmas Tree

Here we go round the Christmas tree The Christmas tree, the Christmas tree. Here we go round the Christmas tree, on a cold and frosty morning. This is the way we open our gifts open our gifts, open our gifts. This is the way we open our gifts, on a cold and frosty morning. This is the way we eat our mince pies... This is the way we pull on a cracker…

When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney

When Santa got stuck up the chimney, He began to shout. You girls and boys, won't get any toys, If you don't pull me out. My beard is black, There's soot in my sack. My nose is tickling too. When Santa got stuck up the chimney, Aaachooo, achoo, achoo.

Nursery December happenings   2018

The children have a variety of experiences to engage in on the lead up to Christmas. Here are some of the things they are learning:

  • Explore and sorts materials into different groups depending on their properties, for example, whether they are strong, smooth, rough, shiny…
  • Recognise, talk about and engage with everyday devices used to measure or display time, including clocks, calendars, sand timers and visual timetables
  • Enjoy exploring and playing with the patterns and sounds of language
  • Hear and feel a beat and rhythm during singing games and rhymes
  • Include others in their play and take turns when listening and talking

We are having small nursery party times (singing games and rhymes) for children at the end of their sessions on Monday 17, Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 December.

Thursday 20 December: our last full day and afternoon session.

Friday 21 December: nursery closes at 11.50am. There are no lunches on Friday. This is quite different for our full day children as they thrive in routine. It is parents’ decision whether children come to nursery.

A warm welcome to all our families.

The children have been settling into nursery and we thank you for your support in making this a gentle, positive experience for the youngest members of our school.

Many of you will be aware that we have been supporting the children learn to 'play and put away'.

Little green fingers have been weeding our garden after the hot summer break! Do come and see our garden. We are all proud of how our garden is growing. Thank you to parent helpers who have been helping build our resource boxes. There are always little jobs to do and we welcome your support.

September events:

Family 'rhyme time' sessions

Perthshire Open Studios. This has inspired us to show off our very youngest local artist's work!

The Great Perthshire Picnic. We are aiming to have a 'teddy bears' picnic' mid month where we will eat local produce and continue to learn more about being healthy. Our children have been talking about healthy during snack and are making. Good choices.
